TASSIE

The Tasmanian State Age Championships are held in March every year in Hobart. Since 2011, Propulsion Aquatic Swimming Club has attended and competed in the championships.

The trip aims to improve swimmers’ PBs as well as develop a sense of independence and responsibility for their race preparation and routines.

In previous years, swimmers have been very successful in the competition with personal best times being broken by over 20 seconds, swimmers qualifying for nationals and states and numerous medals being won.

There is also a team-bonding element to the trip with out of the pool activities in between sessions and after competition.

BYRON BAY

The P.A.S.C Byron Bay training camp occurs in the September school holidays every year. The training camp focuses on improving fitness, technique and resilience as well as building a strong camaraderie within the squad.

The accommodation on the camp is located at Lake Ainsworth in Lennox Head, a short drive out of Byron Bay. The facilities in the campsite are state of the art and include tennis courts, swimming pools and basketball courts. Swimmers stay in a big house with the coaches and share bedrooms that sleep 4-6.

Swimmers who attend the camp train at the Byron Bay outdoor pool and with the Ballina Indoor Swimming Club and receive coaching from Pete

Charlton who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to to our team.  As well as pool sessions, swimmers complete dryland training daily which aims to strengthen swimmers and build fitness to improve power and speed in the pool.

Although the camp is primarily about training, there are loads of fun activities that fill in the time between sessions, whilst building on the existing strong club dynamics. Previously these have included surfing, sea kayaking, wildlife parks, ropes courses, theme parks, movies and beach walks.

CLUB CHAMPS

The annual Propulsion Aquatic and PEGS Swim Academy club championships are an exciting event for our swimming club. From Learn-To-Swim levels right up to National squad, swimmers are invited to take part in a fun and encouraging competition.  Coaches also often compete.

Warm ups and stretches are taken by club leaders and marshalling, time keeping and officiating jobs are done by parent and family volunteers. Events are designed to accommodate all club members and to introduce Learn-To-Swim kids into a competitive environment. The events range from a 25m noodle race for our youngest swimmers up to the prestigious (and very competitive) 100m freestyle event for our older competitors.

There is a cake stall and a sausage sizzle organised by our committee to fundraise for the club and make sure no one races on an empty stomach! Ribbons are awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place getters and participation ribbons given to all swimmers under 10. The club championships are about introducing new swimmers to racing, celebrating our club’s talent, doing some PB’s and having a good time with all of our swimming friends.
